Free downloads and Jamendo Licensing

We've recently started a discussion related to Jamendo Licensing tracks and their availability as a free download on Jamendo Music (see survey, in case you may have missed it).

As you know, when one of your tracks is accepted on Jamendo Licensing, it remains available on Jamendo Music. Being on Jamendo Music implies that this track can be streamed for free and can also be downloaded for free.

Though the Creative Commons license attached to the track specifies what can or cannot be done with it, we know that misuses are still a possibility.

Let us share with you the results of the two main questions:

First of all, how would you rate the importance of getting rid of the free download on Jamendo Music for the tracks you sell on Jamendo Licensing? (scale from 1 to 5)

1 - 18.1%

2 - 7.9%

3 - 17.5%

4 - 17.5%

5 - 39%

Here are the three options at our hands, just select the one that sounds the best to you:

1 - Being able to choose whether or not the Free Download on Jamendo Music is possible - 70.1%

2 - The current system is perfectly fine - 18.6%

3 - My Jamendo Licensing tracks shouldn't even appear on Jamendo Music - 11.3%

We're thus working on a feature which will allow you specify, for each one of your tracks available on Jamendo Licensing, whether you want to keep offering it as a free download on Jamendo Music or not. You'll be able to manage this setting on a track by track basis.
