Your music on Jamendo must be royalty-free
Does that mean that you will not receive money (aka royalties) for your music? No!
The words "royalty-free" and "copyright-free" are not to be taken word-for-word.
Because (a) you will receive royalties on the licenses that you sell on Jamendo (for those participating in the Jamendo monetization services) and (b) you own the copyright to your music.
These terms are used in the music business to say that for this music no royalties will be collected by a collecting society (P.R.O). For Jamendo clients, this means: If I buy a license here, I will not have to pay an additional fee to my Performance Rights Organisation (P.R.O).
What if you are registered with a P.R.O?
Can you not participate in Jamendo when you are already registered with a P.R.O?
That depends on your collecting society.
The conditions vary a lot between different P.R.O's in different countries.
The P.R.O's in some countries are very flexible and allow you to indicate if you want to manage your licenses on Jamendo without them (e.g. most P.R.O's in the US). The P.R.O's in other countries collect royalties only for the songs that you register with them, but not for those, that you do not register with them (e.g. Italy). And the P.R.O's in even other countries claim the right to manage the royalties of all of your tracks, even those that you have not registered with them (e.g. Germany). For more information on different P.R.O's, continue here.
If you are registered with a P.R.O, check the details of your agreement with your P.R.O and inform us of them before uploading your music on Jamendo!
Inform Jamendo of your P.R.O-status
When you create a new Artist on Jamendo, you are asked to indicate if you are registered with a P.R.O. It is very important that you indicate this information correctly. If you are registered with a P.R.O but indicate "no" on Jamendo, then you are in breach of two agreements.
If you indicate "yes"...
...then you need to send us an email of your P.R.O-status to the address firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your profile is waiting for moderation. Your account will be activated only if your P.R.O is flexible on how you can manage your rights (see above).
