What are Creative Commons?

Creative Commons allows creatives like yourself to easily and legally share their works. It builds upon copyright to create a more equitable, accessible, and innovative world. Jamendo supports six different Creative Commons licenses. The one that you choose for your song defines the rights that you reserve and the rights that you freely waive to the public.

The Creative Commons conditions

The different Creative Commons licenses are constructed by combining four different conditions. Depending on they are mixed, a Creative Commons license can have only one condition or a combination of different conditions. They define how the song under the CC license can be used for free.

The four conditions are:

    BY - Attribution

Every CC license on Jamendo starts with the condition BY. Its condition is that the user has to give appropriate credit to you, the artist, and add a link to the CC license of the track in question.

Note: CC0 is a Creative Commons license that has no conditions at all. It allows the free use of the artwork and is therefore similar to the Public Domain. Jamendo does not support CC0. Further info on CC0 can be read here.

  SA - ShareAlike

The user is allowed to remix, transform, or build upon the CC registered material IF, and only if, the user distributes her/his creation under the CC license as your original work.

   NC - NonCommercial

A user cannot use your track if it is used for commercial purposes. Commercial use is defined as follows by the Creative Commons website:

"A commercial use is one primarily intended for commercial advantage or monetary compensation"

   ND - NoDerivatives

The user cannot remix, transform, or build upon the original work if she/he intends to distribute the resulting creation.
